I was advised today, by a Walmart cashier, that Walmart would no longer accept manufacturers’s coupons that did not automatically scan into their computer systems. I asked what she meant by this specifically considering I have shopped at Walmart for years and always used coupons. She said that if the computer did not want to accept the scan of the barcode on the coupon, they could not accept the coupon. I advised that every single time I go to Walmart there is at least one coupon, if not more, that has to have the barcode digits entered manually. I am not responsible for the computer system Walmart uses. I have legitimate coupons cut from the Sunday paper just like millions of other consumers have. We are now responsible for whether or not they “scan” properly into a store’s computer system? Perhaps Walmart would do better to stop being so greedy with their bazillions of dollars and not only pay their employees properly but update their lame computer systems. Any product that I have a coupon for that Walmart’s computer system will not accept will be voided as I will refuse to purchase it. If this is going to be a foregoing and predominate policy, I will take my coupons and my Target VISA card and go where not only are my coupons accepted but I get 5% off for having the card.
