If you are thinking about purchasing a Sony home audio docking system RDH-GTK1I and you are an American working family that $250 U.S.D means money please don’t purchase this wooden box, unless you need a heavy flashlight with a handle. 220 MRS lol…The volume in almost every setting from 0 to 15 there is barely no sound all you have left is 16 to 30. Trust me not loud at all!!! I purchase this product on line reading some reviews as soon it arrived I noticed there was no sound and I tried to return it but there was a $52.00 return shipping and a 25% restocking fee so I called the Sony store in a local mall they told me that I could exchange it and got the person’s name so I drove there.
I arrive at the mall and I got a $5.00 shopping cart push the wooden flashlight into store, once I got to the Sony store the cashier told me NO we do not take anything purchased online, I told her listen I spoke to someone on the phone and gave her a name she said sorry they gave you the wrong information so I asked for the store manager, I asked him to exchange the wooden flashlight for anything in the store even if it was a lesser value I was willing to pay a restocking fee. The answer was NO I’m Sorry. So I drove home took it apart trying to find anything I could maybe adjust to increase the volume another NO.
So I placed it on the roof of my shed volume at 10 obviously no sound facing up so when planes fly by at night they will say that’s a nice flashlight red and blue until it burns. At least now when I go outside and I see it I get reminded not to purchase anything from Sony Sound unless you drive to the store and test it first. I’m sure for Sony for $250 is like a penny to me or less. Be advised if you see any positive post on this flashlight it’s probably a Sony agent. Thank you for reading you have been advised.

I don’t own this particular Sony system, but judging by the review you posted here, you may have received a defective unit. Also judging by this review, your attitude sucks and so it is no wonder the people at the Sony store refused to help you. It’s scum bags like your self that ruin things for the rest of us who are actually reasonable people.
I too am disappointed in my purchase of this Sony RDH-GTK1i boom box. I received it and upon opening it and playing it, I noticed that it did not play that loud at all. You can turn the volumn control all the way up to “MAX” and it only plays at a moderately loud level. Then after a couple of minutes of playing at max setting the automatic level limiter circuitry in it seems to lower it even lower in volumn when a heavy bass or loud passage occurs! What the heck!? I too think I got a defective “new” unit and am hassling to try and return it too. It is a big and heavy unit to pay for return shipping too! Disappointed in this unit if that is the way they all are designed to perform. It simply will not play loud to rock your house party down like they imply with the 220 watts rms advertised hype. (The sound can be awesome if it would just play louder without the limiter cutting back the volumn).
I got it in EU and live in Vienna its Brand New here and just come Also Volume go up to 49 then MAX and it Sound strong. Im a Musican and I own about 60 Speaker. Im a Collector and this Tool is cheap and booming and I am no Sony Agent. Just some Time it say the IPOD dont work with this device then ON Off and it work. But Same Prob my have with an other Sony Dock also. But my Boom Box is strong and i know the First ever the JVC the Monster the Haarmann kardon…….Even the New Pioneer..
I bought this unit in March 2012 and am satisfied with the quality of sound it pumps out, but as William has said, if it would just play louder. However, if you connect a home CD player directly through the RCA points this is one solution to boost sound levels. In this day in age though, I doubt if you will get away with having your stereo cranked up too much in urban/suburban areas without attracting noise complaints.
There is two models made after this one, being the RDH-GTK11iP and the RDH-GTK33iP, the latter boasting 420 W RMS.
