On Wednesday, March 21st, I flew from Houston, IAH to Lahore Pakistan and flew back on Thursday, April 26th. After flying with Qatar Airways, I, unfortunately, must share my abhorrent experiences. When I was first checking in my luggage, I spoke to the check-in clerk by the name of Rosie and told her that this was my first time flying on Qatar Airways.
She reassured me that I would have a pleasant experience and that I would always fly with Qatar Airways for all my international flights because of your excellent service. However, shortly being issued my boarding pass, I was called back to the baggage check-in area and was told that my suitcase was damaged because it had been caught in the belt. My belongings were brought to me in a plastic bag. I then asked how I could possibly travel overseas with just that.
A representative by the name of Donna issued me a suitcase and told me to put my belongings in there and to check if anything was damaged or missing. I told her that I could immediately notice some things were missing such as my shoe, lotion, and hairdryer, but I will give you a list when I come back.
She agreed. I took pictures of my broken suitcase and the plastic bag containing my belongings. I handed my baggage back to them and then I boarded. With this behind me, I thought I would have no more issues, but sadly, this was just the beginning.
After arriving back to Houston, I was in baggage claim and one of my suitcases was never put on the belt. I began to search to see if it was already placed on the floor and found it next to the belt torn up and my belongings were in tray next to it. I was surprised at first then quickly became agitated.
A Qatar Airways employee by the name of Jennifer then saw me and said, “Oh, it happened again to you? It happened twice to you. You’re so lucky.” Another employee, Sofia, then added, “A double whammy! You should buy a lottery ticket. You would’ve won twice.” Two of your own employees were mocking my misfortune.
Jennifer then told me she was the one who filed my claim when I first left. She told me to go to the office to file another claim. At this time, Sofia was already beginning to file a new claim. She asked me to fill out a form. However, because of a combination of frustration and jetlag, I was unable to find all the items that I was missing.
I asked her for my first claim number, but I was told that the case was closed because seven days had already passed. No one had told me before I left, that I only had seven days to follow that claim. They knew I was traveling overseas and should’ve told me this beforehand.
I went to Pakistan early to get theses things done because my son’s graduation is coming up on May 19, my daughter’s graduation in June and month of Ramadan (Fasting) is in July and august, though the wedding ceremony of my son is at the end of august 2011.
In addition, the money I asked you is according to the cost of Pakistan’s pricing since I cannot go back now to get the things made in Pakistan, I have to buy them here with 3 times more price the amount which is going to cost me here, Therefore I request you to pay the amount . If that can not be done then I may have to seek my legal option
After this entire heartache, I am attaching a list of all of my items missing with receipts of the total cost. These items were for my son’s wedding. All these items were custom made and stitched. They were very expensive and for a very special occasion. I demand that you compensate me for my airfare, the loss of my personal belongings, the stress caused by this ordeal, and cost of remaking those clothing.
