11July2011- bought a v.w.polo TDI from SJS cars Meerut and got registered with RTO Meerut resulting in no.UP15AV3139. Drive 335 kms. in approxiamately 20 days in local use. 01Aug.2011- decide to take the car on a trip to holy Haridwar. Drive about 10 kms. and get a feeling of smoke. Find the car is emitting thick black smoke like a coal chimney. I telephone the service incharge Mr.Priyank Sharma. Advised to check coolant. Yes, the coolant box is almost drought. I take the car to the showroom. It is found a certain part called EGI has perished. Okay. This part will take a week to arrive from Head Quarter i.e.Aurangabad. The car is stalled for want of this part.
I start calling Mr.Rehman (the person taking care of the car ) after 5 days. The required part has still not arrived. Finally on Monday 08August11 I am told the part has arrived and the car has to be left at the showroom for 2 days to ensure that the car gets in perfect order. Next day I get a phone call pronouncing the car has been set right.
On being asked, I am told the needy part has been replaced. I visit the showroom to collect the car. The reception and the hospitality is definitely very kind and the staff,workers are co-operative and polite. A test-drive is taken with Mr.Rehman sitting next to me & the gentlemam suggests to take the car for a long drive (to my regret ) without any hitch. Oh yes, no charges were levied inspite of my being prepared to bear.
12 aug.2011- I take the car on a short hopping trip to Delhi,enroute I stop at a few places. As the car is new & I have had a problem,I do not cross the 60km.speed. I feel a few jerks now and then, but overlook. 15Aug.2011- I take a solo trip to Haridwar, a distance of 150 kms., again driving very carefully and not exceeding the 60 km. needle mark. 9 kilometers short of Haridwar, in pouring rain,I feel the smoke smell and stop the car immediately.
On opening the bonnet, to my horror, the car is fuming and the coolant box almost empty. I frantically tried to make telephone contact on all Meerut SJS numbers but probably it was a day OFF. No v.w. dealer nearby could be found from all available sources, no matter how hard I tried. From here starts the agony and the horror tale of my next 15 hours.
Bought 10 bottles of water and started the journey back to Meerut. Terrible,terrible traffic jamsand the car would hardly move a kilometer or two and I had to refill the coolant-box&cool the engine for few minutes. The rage and snarls of other people were so dirty, it is almost difficult to mention. To the extent, had to beg people to convey that the car is troubling. he
Imagine a lone man in a car,stopping every 2/3 kms. ,running to the engine,lifting the engine-bonnet, opening the coolant box very carefully and slowly,again going back to the carinside to fetch water,adding water,waiting for the engine to cool down a bit,going back to the car inside ,watching people laugh at the plight of a NEW car and ofcourse my plight too,in the process I got hurt by the car door which hit into my face,near the eye,(fortunately the eye was saved).
The above process continued almost the entire night . My faith in v.w. got a rude shock, which I had thought was one of the world leaders in automobile industry. Anyway what has happened …..has happened, but it has definitely raised a few serious questions :-
1. why the coolant is not available in market. I have been told that v.w/has a special coolant of its own
2. my personal rating of SJS cars is very, very disappointing. I feel no repairs were carried out, no part was changed as claimed by the service staff (or even acquired from headquarters). Simply pink coolant was put and the car handed over.
I will heartily appreciate if you could provide me an answer to this. I am looking forward to your reply before taking the vehicle for check-up again. Wishing you all the luck in India, Volkswagon.
