In February 2011, I had the blinking light problem with the PS3 where nothing would be fixed. I paid the 150.00 service charge and was sent a “refurbished” PS3, which i was fine with. 9 months later, I end up with the same issue, which means you cannot play any games, movies, or internet. Called “Customer Service” and was told I would have to pay another 150.00 service charge to fix it again. After stating how ridiculous this is, I spoke to two supervisors who stated “oh well because people abuse extended warranties, we only guarantee our service for 90 days”.
After explaining that this wasn’t just some small glich causing a problem, I was informed there is nothing that can be done since this is the first edition PS3. Regardless of putting numerous funds into their online service store, I was still informed there was nothing they would do and i’d still be charged 150.00 if i wanted it fixed, in spite of them sending me a defective unit. I will never buy another SONY product again.

I have exactly the same problem as “complaint about Sony PS3 console”. I bought my PS3 back in 2008. About year and a half the system totally crashed. It took forever to have Custumer Sevice contact me and at the end I had to send my PS3 to them, for which they charged me (about 180 USD) to fix it (which by the way I do not understand why a company like Sony does not stand behind their products and recognize when there is a problem with their system, and fix it without charging the custumer). Anyway, they sent it back “fixed” and it worked for another year and then the same problem happened. So I called Sony again and told them about my problem. After spending a lot of time going through useless steps, the agent told me that there was nothing else but to send it to them AGAIN, but of course I have to pay AGAIN for them to fix their system. So, let me explain something here, I do not spend 10 hrs a day with this machine. I probably average 4-10 hrs a month. So it is not for wear and tear!! So anyway, I told the agent that I was not going to pay to send it AGAIN. When it crashed, I was playing a brand new videogame (for which I paid about 60USD). So I told him if there was a way I can eject the disk from the unit. Again after several useless steps (and the freaking disk was still inside the PS3) he literally said to me” well, you can send it to us and we can remove the disk and return it to you”..for free?? No way!! I have to pay the 99USD + shipping + taxes to send my PS3 back to them!!!! ohh wait..it gets better, he then said :” or you are more than welcome to try to get your disk out by any means!!” At this point I just had it with them and hanged up!! Again, I dont understand why Sony does not stand behind their products, and why they are trying to make more money after the millions we spent buying and upgrading their products..maybe because of all the money they must be making “fixing” the PS3 consoles (based on all the reviews and complaints). It is a shame, because I have enjoyed every console since the original PS came out, but I am not sure what happended with the PS3 system. Probably they are making a lot of money and they just dont really care! Ok, going to the Xbox 360 now!!
