Apple Complaint: Display on iPad2, 64GB, wi-fi not working for no apparent reason

My ipad2 was purchased in hongkong in June last year, it’s been working fine so far.
My ipad2 has both a protective screen cover n an overall leather cover that I usually carry it in.
Last week, I took the iPad to work as usual but didnt use it at all during the day, it was in its cover.
I brought it back home with me n removed the device from its outer cover to access my mails around 11pm
In the night n the display was gone completely, nothing wrong with the screen. Went to
The apple franchisee store in mantri mall, malleswaram n was told out of warranty, can’t help, would cost me Rs17500 to replace it which is ridiculous
Since I didn’t do anything to damage the piece. The apple toll free telephone service was of no help either, one Ms Mandira who informed me that she was the ultimate authority here to take a decision but wouldn’t or couldn’t help coz there was no justification!!
