I am resident in UAE and following a vidsit to Oman I received a sms on my Oman mobile telling me my number had been selected at random as a winner of the 2011 Nokia Mobile Anniversary Promotion. There was an e-mail to contact of nokianewclaimsdept@hotmail.com and also a Uk number +44 7835 935 920. Suspecting the number to be a premium rate line I just made contact with the e-mail and afterwards received a claim form which would not complete online.
It would seem aware of this the e-mail then sought basic identity detail including some formal identification for confirmation. I gave basic details and a copy of my UAE driving licence.
The reply had been from Dr. Allan Peterson quoting a Berkeley Square address for Nokia UK. I have since received confirmation of the award of the prize of five hundred thousand Great British Ponnds (words) GBP.530,000 (figures) together with an impressive looking certificate, which I have been requested to send to ntwest-bk@live.co.uk, said to be National Westminster Bank for the attention of Andrew Spencer. I have heard nothing from him ,but from other stories I have seen it seems that the next move will be a request for me to pay for insurance and certification which can not be taken out of the prize for some confluted legal reason.
It remains to be seen how things develop. There seems little doubt now that this is a scam, but there is always that very remote chance that it could be real which keeps people involved.
